New World Globe Lampshades Coming Soon!

During this 4-day weekend (thank you to our school district for the extended holiday!), I've been happily working away in my workroom (aka the garage).  I did take Saturday off to go to the Seattle Gift Show (see previous post).  While working in the workroom, I had to finally turn on the space-heater in order to work down there though - brrrrr it gets cold down there (it's been so cold that my faithful dog Sophie isn't willing to keep me company down there when I'm working). Thankfully the space heater works pretty well because trying to do detail-work with cold, stiff fingers just wasn't working well.
Ready to sell

A work in progress
Part of my work has been to reorganize my work-spaces.  I'm happy to say that I've actually managed to purge a good deal of items and that they will be heading off to Ebay, Etsy, or Goodwill soon (hooray!). Sending unwanted items off for others to enjoy makes me happy because not only am I recycling, but I've managed to clear a whole shelf for me to fill up with other things (which won't be hard to do).

The remainder of my time has been spent on project development and production.  I'm happy to say that I've launched 1 new product that seems to have generated a bit of buzz...my Coffee Belts (see the previous post).  I also have some new hairclips and necklace pendants that I've been working on and should be ready for listing on Etsy when I get the chance.  I've also had several people interested in other World Globe Lampshades, so I've been busy working on them.  I have 1 ready to sell on Etsy and 2 more in production that should be ready soon.  So many things to make!  I LOVE IT!!
This is also almost ready to sell!

I should have pictures up on Flickr or Pinterest soon.
Thanks for reading my blog and have a great week!

Seattle Gift Show and Coffee Belts

What a great day at the Seattle Gift Show!  Lots of interesting booths and great ideas.  I met a couple of wonderful people too!  BIG thanks to Kristen Norman of Sydney Designs, Michelle of Attic Journals, and to Susan Wolfe of Rainbow Connection!!  You ladies were extremely inspirational!!   A big thank you to my friend Shelby of www.10redpapayas.com - you made the day a real joy!
I certainly learned a lot today and you ladies have given me a lot of information to think about.

To the vendors and customers who expressed interest in my Coffee Belts, I will have a few available in my Etsy store ReCoveredTreasures4U by tomorrow.  Thank you for your interest and your patience!

Seattle Gift Show Jan 2013

A booth at the 2012 Gift Show
A clever display
I must say that I am looking forward to the January 2013 Seattle Gift Show next week.  I went to my first gift show last fall and found it fascinating and a bit overwhelming (so many booths to visit!).  I LOVED it and I learned a lot about what is currently for sale in retail stores (that was an eye-opener!!).

This time I am going with an actual purpose in mind.  I am hoping to find a few vendors/suppliers for a few of the base-supplies I want to use in making some my products (for instance, hair clips for me to decorate with all my lovely buttons!).  I've been doing a lot of research about owning a business and am now starting to work on getting my business to grow - so I'm hoping that I can make a few good connections here to help me in the future.
More fun home decor items from the Gift Show

If you ever have the opportunity to go - I highly recommend it!! It's amazing what you can learn there!  Plus I found it to be very inspirational in my business AND my personal life (I very much wanted to buy things to decorate my house with!!).

Maybe some day I will be able to have a booth at this gift show where I offer my products wholesale (what an exciting idea)!

I'll be wearing a t-shirt with my company name and logo on it - if you see me there, stop me and say hello!  I'd love to chat with you!

Re-Imagined Clipboards Update

Clipboards #2, 3, 5, and 4 (starting clockwise from the top left)
A quick update to my post about my Re-Imagined Clipboards.... and I can't believe I left this off (probably due to late-night timing of my posting!).   Sooo... here's the update:

Not only are these clipboards "green" because they are almost entirely crafted from recycled items, but they also are made with the intent of honoring Breast Cancer Awareness!

My mother passed away in 1998 after an almost 10 year battle with breast cancer.  So Breast Cancer Awareness is very near and dear to my heart!   On every Re-Imagined Clipboard I make, I have placed a small pink bead in honor of my mom and Breast Cancer Awareness.

The arrow points to the bead on clipboard #4
In addition, when I am ready to sell my Re-Imagined Clipboards from my Etsy store (ReCoveredTreasures4U) - I will be donating a percentage of every sale to the Susan G Komen Foundation (a VERY worthwhile charity - I highly recommend donating to it, or to the American Cancer Society!  With your help, we can wipe out cancer in our lifetime!).

Thank you for taking a moment to read my blog and if you or someone you know is fighting cancer - my prayers are with you!

Re-imagined Clipboards

Closeup of my first re-imagined clipboard!
My first re-imagined clipboard
I am in love with (and hate) my newest project - Re-Imagined Clipboards.  In my day-job, I run around all day with a boring clipboard  (ugly old thing!).  It's a neccessity, but did it have to be so boring?? NO!  So a bit of imagination, some decoupage glue, a bunch of craft glue, a few bits of jewelry and a heck of a lot of buttons, and a LOT of time later.... I had a MUCH pretty clipboard!!  One that my coworkers LOVED too!

2nd clipboard
So this winter break, did I spend most of my time doing Christmas-y things? Nope.  I spent hours (and hours and hours) in my work room (aka my garage) freezing my poor tootsies off.  I finally completely finished 4 clipboards with 5 more in progress.

The best thing about these clipboards is almost the whole thing is done with recycled and used items.  I found the clipboards at garage sales or thrift stores.  The buttons are used or vintage.  I used scrapbook paper (which I also got at garage sales, thrift stores, or from my old scrapbook supplies), and even the jewelry bits are from old or vintage earrings or necklaces (the white, beaded pom pom thing near the top of #2 is an old clip-on earring!). So these awesome clipboards are created from old, cast-off items than nobody else wanted. I am always thrilled when I am able to make something so cool out of things others got rid of!!!

I LOVE how they turned out (I want to keep them all!!) and I HATE how much time they take (and ewww... the glue is SUCH a pain to work with and to clean up!!).   I am toying with selling them, but will probably have to sell them for cost of supplies and a bit of work - because if I sold them for the amount of hours in each one  (even at minimum wage), I'd have to sell them for close to one hundred bucks!    Well I may sell a few anyways.. if I can bear to part with them!

I had a blast making these (if you ignore the cold and the super-sticky glue messes!).  I wish you all happy crafting and may you have a wonderful 2013!!!!  Happy New Year!!
